2020 GCSE and A Level grading system Explained

by The Adapt teamApril 15, 2022After Exams

With all of the uncertainty about how this virus will affect your education, we've made it our mission to keep you up to date and in control through these crazy times.

That's why we've teamed up with Beyond the Blackboard UK to bring you this 👏 CLEAR 👏 AND 👏 CONCISE 👏 overview of how you'll be graded at GCSE and A Level in 2020.

👇 Watch it below 👇

To summarise, here's what we know so far:

  • Your teachers will be submitting a grade for you to the exam board, taking into account classwork, homework, PPEs, and coursework you completed before schools were closed.
  • They'll also provide a ranking, which means how likely or unlikely they think you are to receive the grade they've awarded. They cannot tell you what they submit.
  • The exam boards will then review all of this information, as well as any previous standardised testing you may have taken (SATs or GCSEs) and how well your school did last year. Based on that, they may ask your teachers to provide evidence for the grade they gave you and/or change your grade.
  • You'll get your results on the normal results day this summer! It may be earlier, but they're not sure about that yet.
  • These results will look identical to any other GCSE or A Levels, and you will not be treated differently by colleges, Universities, or employers because of the way they've been awarded.
  • You can appeal! If you're unhappy with the grade you receive, you can appeal it- however, no details of how this process will work have been released yet.
  • You will also have the option to sit your exams early next academic year (probably September or October, but no dates have been given yet).
