Section 1: Cleaning your Room

  • Familiarise yourself with typical phrases relating to cleaning your room. For example, 打扫房间 (dǎsǎo fángjiān) means to clean your room.
  • Learn verbs such as (shōu) to pick up, (rēng) to throw away, and (bǎi) to arrange.
  • Expand your vocabulary to include items often found in a room, like (chuáng) for bed, 书桌 (shūzhuō) for desk, and 椅子 (yǐzi) for chair.

Section 2: Meal Preparation

  • Recognise words related to meal preparation like 准备饭菜 (zhǔnbèi fàn cài) which means to prepare meals.
  • Know the names of common Chinese dishes - examples include 炒饭 (chǎofàn) for fried rice and 饺子 (jiǎozi) for dumplings.
  • Practice verbs related to cooking such as (zhǔ) to boil, (qiē) to cut, and (chǎo) to stir fry.

Section 3: Invite Friends Over

  • Learn phrases associated with inviting friends over like 邀请朋友来我家 (yāoqǐng péngyǒu lái wǒ jiā) which translates to invite friends to my house.
  • Understand how to talk about planned activities such as 看电影 (kàn diànyǐng) to watch a movie, 一起做作业 (yīqǐ zuò zuòyè) to do homework together, and 玩电子游戏 (wán diànzǐ yóuxì) to play video games.
  • Be able to express giving directions like 向右转 (xiàng yòu zhuǎn) turn right and 向左转 (xiàng zuǒ zhuǎn) turn left.

Key Vocabulary Exercise

Basic Meeting and Greeting Phrases

  • General Phrases (一般的短语): Get familiar with common greetings such as hello (你好), good morning (早安), good evening (晚安), and goodbye (再见).
  • Politeness Phrases (礼貌的短语): Gain knowledge of polite expressions like please (请), thank you (谢谢), excuse me (对不起), and sorry (抱歉).
  • Introducing Oneself (自我介绍): Understand how to introduce oneself using phrases like my name is... (我叫...), I am... years old (我...岁了), and I come from... (我来自...).

Business Meeting and Greeting Phrases

  • Meeting Phrases (会议的短语): For professional settings, get familiar with phrases such as nice to meet you (很高兴认识你), how do you do (你好吗), and long time no see (好久不见).
  • Ending a Meeting (结束会议): Learn how to professionally end a meeting with expressions like see you later (再见), see you tomorrow (明天见), and goodbye everyone (大家再见).

Social Greeting Phrases

  • Casual Greetings (随意的问候): Understand more casual and friendly phrases such as what's up? (怎么样?), how's it going? (过得怎么样?), and hey! (喂!).
  • Inquiring about Well-being (询问健康状况): Learn phrases to ask about one's health like how are you? (你好吗?), are you well? (你身体好吗?), and is everything good? (一切都好吗?).

Cultural Considerations in Meeting and Greetings

  • Formal vs Informal Greetings (正式和非正式的问候): Distinguish between formal and informal greetings and when to use each. For instance, 你好 for formal and 喂 for a more casual setting.
  • Respect and Politeness (尊重和礼貌): Identify the importance of respectful phrases among seniors or in professional settings. For example, using 您 instead of 你 to show respect.
  • Understanding Chinese Etiquette (理解中国礼仪): Learn the significance of etiquette in greetings such as avoiding direct eye contact, the importance of a handshake, and the practice of giving and receiving items with both hands.
