Basics of Drawing

• Understand the use of different mediums such as pencils, charcoal, pastels and ink in creating various types of drawings.
• Grasp the concept of perspective drawing - a technique for depicting three-dimensional volumes and spatial relationships on a two-dimensional surface.
• Develop observational skills by regularly sketching objects, people and landscapes.
• Pay close attention to details to create accurate drawings and to give authenticity to your work.
• Understand the concepts of proportion, measurement, and scale when creating drawings.

Lines and Shadows

• Master using lines to create the shape, texture, and form of the object being drawn.
• Notice that lines can be thick or thin, light or dark, and they can change the mood and composition of your drawings.
• Understand how to create shadows and depth using various shading techniques such as hatching, cross-hatching, stippling, smudging, and others.

Colour Theory and Mixing

• Learn to use colours to convey emotion, mood, and setting.
• Understand the basics of colour theory — the colour wheel, primary, secondary and tertiary colours, complementary colours, warm and cool colours.
• Get a grip on colour mixing to achieve desired shades and tones.
