Understanding Different Text Types

• Familiarise yourself with various types of texts such as narratives, descriptions, expositions, arguments, discussions, and instructions. Each of these formats have unique characteristics.
• Understand narratives usually tell a story and include elements like characters, setting, and a storyline.
• Recognise descriptive texts focus on describing a particular person, place, or thing in detail.

• Understand argumentative texts present a point of view on a particular issue, and support this viewpoint with evidence.
• Be aware that discussions aim to present multiple perspectives on a topic, allowing the reader to compare different viewpoints.
• Note that instructional texts provide guidelines on how to do something or carry out a task.

• Cultivate the ability to recognise and understand keywords, main ideas, and supporting details to fully understand the content and structure of the text.
• Develop the practice of inferring information that is not directly stated within a text by using clues led by the author.
